Adoption Announcements When traditional baby announcements don't quite capture the joy of their new arrivals, many adoptive moms and dads get creative! AF staffers and readers share their adoption announcements—some hand-made, some customized, all filled with love! See our reader reviews of six customizable announcements!
"The card was designed by a talented friend of ours, Catherine Minor, who had been housesitting for us when we went on our trip. She left the drawing with a "welcome home" note—and we liked it so much that we asked her to turn it into an announcement!"—Dan and Saara Crane, Connecticut
"My husband and I already had nine biological children when we adopted four kids from foster care. I created a card that looked like a donut box, included pictures and information about each of our children, and proudly announced that we now had a baker’s dozen."—Debbie Kartchner, Utah
Adoptive Families managing editor Eve Gilman's announcement:
"We found some rubber stamps with the Chinese symbols for sun, moon, sky, and star. We decorated the front of the announcement with the symbols, and wrote, 'A new star has appeared in our sky.' The inside had her photo and information. I used the stamps to decorate the envelopes, too.—Laura Hinkley, Indiana
"We used purplestork.com, and couldn't be happier. Everyone loved our announcements, and they are framed in many family and friends' houses."—Christine Ayala, Maryland
From AF readers Mike and Kara Peek:
"I found a quote that I loved: 'In our hearts, she was already ours; we simply had to bring her home.' I printed the quote along with our daughter’s birthdate, birth city and country, and the date we brought her home on blank cards, with the outline of Guatemala behind the text. I was so excited to finally have a girl that I printed all of the words in pink!—Cindy Swatek, Missouri
AF contributing editor Laura Broadwell's announcement:
"The inside of my handmade announcements read as follows: “With a joyful heart, I announce the final adoption of my beautiful daughter, Nivianna Faith. Faith began this journey and love will sustain.” I included her birthdate, the date we began the adoption process, and the date she joined our family.—Sharon, Florida

I'm an adoptive mom of a beautiful little boy from South Korea. After Nate came home, in order to stay home with him and try to pay off our adoption loan, I began my business The First Glimpse www.thefirstglimpse.com . If you go to my site, you'll see many more adorable customized announcements that I've created for the adoption community! :) I love the fact that our children came to us in such a special way and enjoy helping other families celebrate their children, while sharing their joy with family and friends!

Are there any examples that would be suitable for the adoption of an adolescent from the foster care system?

Help! Does anybody know of a place I can find adoption announcements for siblings and older children? My husband and I are adopting a sibling group of four (9 years old, 6 years old, 4 years old, and 2 years old) and all we can find are either "baby" announcements, or 2 sibling announcements. Thanks! Sharon

I read about adoption announcements you can order, but you can create your own for less money and they will be personalized to your situation. You can find stationery with appropriate borders at photocopy places like Kinko's. When we adopted our daughter from China, I found good sample announcements in a book called "The New Jewish Baby Book," and created an announcement that announced both our daughter's birth date and adoption date and that she was named after her paternal great-grandmother and maternal great-aunt. With digital cameras, you can easily upload photos and create your own that way too. Less expensive and, I think, more personal.
